Where Should I stay in San Diego?

San Diego, CA has everything you could want when on vacation. It has the beach on the Pacific Ocean filled with surfers and sunbathers, a downtown with nightlife vibes and cool boutiques, and hiking trails for days. When choosing where to book your hotel, you may be overwhelmed with all the choices. Should I stay in a luxury one by the beach, or a cheaper one that’s closer to convenience stores? What if I told you, you don’t have to choose between hotels, you can choose between houses and locations.

With Air BnB as an option when traveling, if San Diego is your destination, I would truly suggest checking them out.

Air BnB is a perfect option for solo travelers and couples because you can find rooms to rent, close to the beach (and convenience stores), in a down-to-earth location, for a decent price. I did this while traveling solo, and even shared a room in a house with a good friend of mine in Ocean Beach. OB is the place you go, and never want to leave. That’s why Air BnB is such a good option when traveling here. You can actually feel like you live here, experience the local culture, all while still being on vacation. There aren’t as many people using Air BnB as a business in OB (as the locals call it), and instead use it to meet new people, and show hospitality to the new ones in town.

Along Sunset Cliffs Blvd and Voltaire St, in the heart of Ocean Beach, you can find many places to eat and shop. Restaurants include places like Plant Power Fast Food and HUGO’s Mexican Cocina, who are both extremely vegan-friendly (PPFF is completely plant-based). Shopping in OB is a really awesome experience, as they have many stores you may have never seen before because they are mostly small, local businesses. Another great shopping experience is the Farmer’s Market every Wednesday evening, which provides you with handcrafted goods, local entertainment, and of course fruits & veggies!

Walkability is a trait I always want in a city/town that I’m visiting, and Ocean Beach definitely has that. All in the same corner is the Ocean Beach People’s Co-Op (all vegetarian grocery and vegan deli), Plant Power Fast Food, a liquor/convenience store, and a gas station. And that’s just on one corner! You can just walk down a couple streets and you’ll find more places like plant boutiques, a metaphysical shop, local clothing stores, and plenty of dive bars to delight whatever you’re in the mood for. And don’t even forget the best part of OB, Sunset Cliffs themselves! I wouldn’t say you can walk to them from anywhere in OB, but you can try, and it may be worth it because at sunset the views are to die for. Although, you can experience the beauty of Sunset Cliffs Natural Park anytime of day.

Ocean Beach, San Diego is the place for hippies, surfers, and all other free spirits. I’m sure you’ll find your second home in this small beach town the locals call OB.

Now that you know where to stay, find out where to eat.
