On July 25th, KINDRED, located in South Park, San Diego, launched two new desserts on their beautifully crafted menu. The Chocolate Cremeux was a show-stopper for me, with the dense dark chocolate pudding just melting on my tongue, I couldn't help but scoop my spoon in for more.

It reminded me of when you leave soft serve ice cream out for just about ten minutes, and you get that really nice, velvet like texture. The Creme Anglaise, just under the cremeux, was seasoned with black pepper. Understandably, I was a little hesitant to try this part of the dish, but I found it was a wonderful addition to the chocolate because it cut just enough of the bitterness. Garnishes included sugared Rainier cherries, gingered almonds, and Nasturtium, an edible flower. The cherries and gingered almonds were amazing toppings to a spoon full of the chocolate cream and anglaise. The almonds gave it a nice crunch, and the cherries gave a natural fruity sweetness to the semi-bitter chocolate.
The plate was beautifully arranged, just as you’d expect to see in a fine dining restaurant. Nasturtium flowers made the dish’s aesthetic really pop with the fireworks of red and yellow, and the sugared cherries gave it a beautiful sparkle. The dollop of Chocolate Cremeux was perfectly smooth and inviting for couples to enjoy, and singles alike.
I highly recommend visiting KINDRED the next time you're in San Diego. What they have in atmosphere is doubled in quality and taste.
